Summary
Rafaya is an Asuya Company field team member stationed on Tier , deployed alongside Forza Ninetails and Chambers on an off-the-books salvage / intel mission to investigate a downed Sun Jin Empire cargo freighter in the Kovar Region. Though she presents as a typical Bethian from Bethany, she is secretly working with the Systems Alliance -driven by disgust at what the Empire has done to her homeworld, and able to blend in because Tier is (loosely) Sun Jin-controlled at the time of BT - Chapter 1. Inside the wreck, Rafaya’s attempt to reach Chambers’ body triggers an immediate ambush, and Rafaya is killed moments before Forza’s first direct confrontation with Kiara Quall.[1][2]
Character snapshot (from on-page text)
- Demeanor: capable and mission-ready, but emotionally transparent when the situation turns—panic and urgency once Chambers stops responding.[2]
- Team cohesion: close camaraderie with Forza; explicit romantic partnership with Chambers (chemistry and affection shown in narration and behavior).[1][2]
- Combat posture: switches to a close-quarters-friendly loadout (shotgun + extra light) once inside the wreck, suggesting practical instincts for confined spaces.[2]
- Clearance / awareness: Rafaya is part of the Asuya operator layer that understands Asuya’s “independent contractor” story is cover for Systems Alliance intelligence work inside Sun Jin-controlled space.
Relationships
- Chambers: partners / couple; Rafaya’s fear for Chambers drives the team deeper into the wreckage after he goes silent on comms.[2]
- Forza Ninetails: teammate and on-mission commander (“sir”); Forza attempts to pull Rafaya back / keep close as the danger becomes clear.[2]
